Receiving Labels

Receiving labels in a fairly automated environment could be printed 2 ways:

  1. After entry of the purchase order information via a RFPT or receiving terminal, the individual unit labels can be printed in the receiving area or on a portable printer attached to the forklift or on the person. In this manner, specific information about that particular item can be printed and encoded onto the label, allowing them to put it away, do inventory and pick the product.

  2. They could use preprinted bar code labels that would be scanned into the receiving record with that label (bar code) being used for the put away and subsequent tracking operations. Either a single bar code label can be printed, or a piggyback set of identical numbers can be printed. The set of identical numbers allows a single subset to be removed and placed on picked items, for positive identification.
